He wrestled\, complained\, wept\, and doubted — and then he prayed. Loudly. The Psalms are proof that God can handle whatever we bring to the table. Mashing strawberries turns out to be a pretty good metaphor for all of it. \nTrials and tribulations are rarely fun. But they have a way of refining us — pressing out something better than what was there before. Sound familiar? \nAll ages welcome. We’ve been in the same building on Sunday mornings — but there’s a kind of knowing that only happens around a table\, over a real meal\, with nowhere to be for a couple of hours. That’s the gap Table Talk is meant to fill. \nThis summer\, Christ Mertz is gathering for three Saturday evenings built around cooking together\, eating together\, learning together\, and closing with communion. Not a replacement for Sunday worship. Something different — smaller\, slower\, and a lot noisier. \nFirst up — Session One: The Word Saturday\, June 13 · 5:00–7:00 PM \nWe’ll explore how to actually encounter God through Scripture. Not just read it — encounter it. The Bible is large\, complex\, and sometimes baffling. But underneath all that is deep wisdom\, and more than wisdom: the presence of God\, ready to meet you. DESCRIPTION:As with all prophets\, Isaiah tied together his theological interpretation with the political\, civil\, and secular events of the time.\nEven today\, we hear prophetic voices calling to us from many directions. Both the right and the left cajole and entice us to join their cause. But which\, if any\, is the way to peace\, hope\, joy\, and/or promise? \nJoin us at 10 AM & 7 PM (in-person or ZOOM) for this Advent study on the Thursdays of Advent; 12/1\, 12/8\, 12/15\, 12/22.  The focus texts and themes for the days will be: \nWEEK 1: Peace for God’s People – Isaiah 2:1-5\nWEEK 2: Hope for God’s People – Isaiah 11:1-10\nWEEK 3: Joy for God’s People – Isaiah 35:1-10\nWEEK 4: Promise for God’s People – Isaiah 7:10-16  \nNo reservations are needed. DESCRIPTION:According to Interpol\, the International Criminal Police Organization\, “Cybercrime is a fast-growing area of crime. More and more criminals are exploiting the Internet’s speed\, convenience\, and anonymity to commit a diverse range of criminal activities that know no borders\, either physical or virtual.” \nOne of the most grieved segments of society is seniors. The Brandywine/Topton area churches want to give our seniors tools to stay informed and aware. \nOn July 14\, 2022\, “Chew On This – Lunch and Discussion” will tackle the ongoing issue of cyber fraud\, scams\, and prevention. David Shallcross\, Director of Senior Protection Unit\, Office of Public Engagement\, PA Office of Attorney General\, along with Rep. Ryan Mackenzie\, will: \n\npresent a presentation that will help identify the most common types of scams\,\noffer tips on how to avoid becoming a victim of fraud\,\nprovide information on how to identify the mechanics of what makes a scam work against you\, and\ndispense tips on where and when to report attempts of fraud and scams.\n\nLunch is free although a freewill offering will be available to help defray the cost of the meal.
